Package Servers
This issue has been solved. See solution.
Hi,
In NS6, if i had the following scenario;
Site 1 = NS and Head Office
Site 2 = Package Server
Site 3 = Package Server
Site 4 = Package Server
- I know my NS Server is by default a package server for local clients, but do i need to specifiy that under 'Site Maintenance'? In other words distinguish it as a Package Server to that site, or will any client local to the NS Server at head Office automatically fetch patches from it?
- If i were to look at the Altiris Agent details on my clients at any of the 'other' Sites 2, 3, or 4, should they be listing their Notification Server as their local Package Server on that Site or will they still register their Notification Server as the one in Head Office?
Thanks Steve
Basic answers, if you need more details
let us know.
1)No, you do not need to specify the NS under the site maintenance. If a client isn't in a defined site with an assigned Package Server, it automatically 'goes back' to the NS.
2)Package Servers are not NS servers, so therefore the clients will still be reporting to the NS. They will, however (or should, if properly configured), list their respective package servers as the source locations for downloads.

thanks, so when you say the clients need to be configured to source their local package server is this config done under settings, altiris agent, package servers?
This is configured
on the notification server, under configuration, server setttings, site maintenance (sorry, no server in front of me, I forget if it's notification server infrastructure or server settings).
Here is primer on the site maintenance settings.
