Package for Software Management Solution Agent not installed

This issue has been solved. See solution.

I have a strange problem with our Altiris NS7 installation.

I installed the management suite and some other solution packages on our server.

I have a lot of agents that I can install on my clients, but when I go to install Software Management Solution Agent for Windows, I am told that: "No package could be found for the selected agent installation policy"
The page shows no package name, and therefore also no program name to install on the clients.
The dropdown to choose a program name is empty.

Is there a way for me to get the package "back" in the installation ???

I have tried the following on the server, directly from the console of the server:
 - Repair the solution "Altiris Software Management Solution SP1 (7.0.1492)" - Nothing new
 - Uninstall the solution -> Install the solution - Nothing new
I dont get any errors about the repair or installation. Everything seems fine.

Every time I run the Symantec Installation Manager, I am told to check the verification report in the NS, but I have not been able to find any reports that will tell me a status of what is installed.
The exact line is: "To verify that the licenses and agents are installed properly, run the verification report provided on the reports tab of the Dell Management Console"
Could any one tell me where to find this report ??? Maybe it will tell me something about what went wrong in the installation.
The Symantec Installation Manager only tell me to look in All Reports in the NS management console.

Is it possible to recreate the missing package by hand, or is there some kind of script for doing so, that I can start ???

I have the same problem

I have a job logged with Symantec Support about this   Case 320-240-145

What we have discovered is that if you export the policy(s), and have a look at the XML, you can see that the package GUID is

<packageGuid>{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}</packageGuid>

When it should really look like this

<packageGuid>{b364da8f-1735-4dd3-865a-8b33ca5523cd}</packageGuid>

I have this problem for

pcAnywhere Plug-in for Windows - Install
Power Scheme Agent Install
Install Dell Tasks Handlers and Tools
Dell Client Manager Agent - Install

I have another TEST NS, and I have so tried to edit the XML and reimport it, but I get an error about it not being valid XML

What's really strange is everything was working great.. and then we realised PC Anywhere wasn't being installed..   but it did work.  We are about 2 months into our NS7 Migration.

Editing XML

Hi Mick,
When you export XML and edit it (I'm guessing in Notepad), sometimes various characters aren't preserved properly (this is especially true of the "built in" Altiris items which usually contain localization information in several languages.  Try using an XML editor (even Word should be OK) to update the file and re-save it with a new name.

Thanks,

Hi Kyle, Thanks for the

Hi Kyle,

Thanks for the post.

I was using the Free Microsoft XML Note Pad 2007 Editor

I just tried it in MS Word 2007 and don't get the error which is good.. but I still haven't fixed the problem.

I looked at my Test NS,

And In particular the policy I’m looking at is the

pcAnywhere Plug-in for Windows - Install

I'm stuck on one point you might be able to help me on...

I export the Test NS "pcAnywhere Plug-in for Windows - Install" policy and review the XML and get the package GUID {b364da8f-1735-4dd3-865a-8b33ca5523cd}

Then still on my Test NS;  I look up under all resources / software components and search for "pcAny"  I've checked (right click / properties) nearly all the pcAnywhere resources and still can't find a package GUID as identified above.

Is this how you would expect it to work?  or do you think I going about this all wrong.

Thanks for any assistance.

Mick.

Hi Guys the solution from

Hi Guys the solution from Symantec, which I have used and tested ok in my environment

was to reconfigure all the policies, by using this command.
It's seems that there is some corrupted product polices, and at this stage i would recommend to rebuild all the polices by running the following command from the NS server:

"\Program Files\Altiris\Notification Server\bin\aexconfig /configureall"

Please note that aexconfig /configure will lose all your custom configurations.
For a complete list of the aexconfig switches, please use "aexconfig /?" from the command prompt.

Cheers,

Mick

I have used this method as well

thanks for the reminder Mick! I found it a bit perplexing, as in my case this was a fresh install, and not an upgrade. I was missing some patch management options, and not software management. In any case, it got me up and running again.
