Paraphrasing answers

I follow a couple of tech support fora.  For Symantec, I followed both this forum and the Anti-virus forum.  I don't know why, but perculiar to this forrm: There are users in this forum who feel a need to give an answer which just paraphrase an answer which was given earlier by another user.  Quite often this paraphased answer got credited as the solution to the problem.  I find this practice irritating and it must be disheartening for the user who provided the first correct.

I hope that all users of this forum would practice the following

1) PLEASE REFRAIN FROM PARAPHRASING AN ANSWER.

You might not like how the answer is phrased, but if the idea is there, leave it be.

2) GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE.

An user take the trouble to help you out.  Credit the one who responded first.  Don't make him look like an idiot.  If the latter answer got credited as the solution, everybody would hold back and problems just get longer to be resolved.

Personally, I would like to delete my answer if there is a similar one posted.  Unfortunately, I cannot do so.

Hi,

Would have been good as a blog.
My irritation is when people say the same thing as you. I have done it before, but generally tend to open a query and then leave it open. By the time I have finished my post, someone else has posted. However, I am specifically referring to people posting quite a while afterwards.
I am not really phased with other people's postings...everyone has their own way to fix something, and sometimes they all actually contribute.
My MAJOR concern is someone saying something after me and getting the credit, and subsequently the points...I have had that happen more than once, and have now started raising this. 1 got turned around. Maybe consider doing it as well...?

Hi,

there is also the possibilty that other users, have the same idea, how to fix stuff.

Basically i think copy paste users are only a replacement for the search engine, if they whish to be a search engine, why not!

I want to address it to this forum as it is a habit perculiar to this forum

> there is also the possibilty that other users, have the same idea, how to fix stuff.

Yes, but why repeat the idea.  If you agree with the the idea, vote for it.

that would require to search, if someone had given the same answer, as i plan to do in a earlier post.

That would be to much work for me.

Other Question, why is this point important. Is here a option to earn money implemented in the forum ? Something like on expert-exchange ?

Regards

I think you misunderstood my point about paraphasing answers.  Some users would paraphrase answers that are already posted in the SAME discussion.  If a user repeats what was posted in another discussion, it is perfectly fine.  What is happening in this forum is this:  User A suggested restarting the BE services to resolve the problem.  A couple of hours later, User B suggests running services.msc, stop the BE services and then starting them.  User B does not contribute any new to the discussion and sometimes he got credited for the solution.

Yes. You can redeem your points.

pkh: I agree...the copying of answers directly is a problem. No way to stop that than to vote "Thumbs Down" going forward on posts.

My main issue is when I/others give quite in-depth answers...someone else states it more simply and gets the rewards...there is no justice there.

This bad habit is beginning to rear its ugly head again in this forum.   Time for a reminder.

=)...we have the power to delete/edit answers correct? Maybe a nice, but serious reminder to the offending user about this.

I have PM'd a few guys now about duplicating queries, and it seems to work.
