    Hello ,

I am trying to install Symantec Encryption for Desktop 10.3.2.15495. I am unable to finsih the drive encryption as I am getting  the following error

To use your passphrase at boot time, it must be entered using a supported keyboard layout. Please see the User's Guide for a complete list of supported keyboards. You can change your keyboard layout using the 'Regional and Language Options' control panel. You may then change your keyboard layout back to your current setting.

I don't have any other languages installed except for US english and  no other keyboard option enabled. I am unsing a Lenonvo W540 Laptop connected to Dpcling statioon with extra keyboard and mouse installed. Please let me know how to resolve the issue.

It could be that the keyboard is not being detected appropriately through the docking station.  It sounds like you have already done this part, but please verify:
In the Control Panel, go to Region and Language.  Go to the Keyboards and Languages tab.  Select Change Keyboards.  In that box, make sure it says EN English (United States).

It could also be that the software did not detect the install language appropriately.  Run a command prompt as Administrator and do the following:
Navigate to the following directory - C:\Program Files (x86)\PGP Corporation\PGP Desktop
    cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\PGP Corporation\PGP Desktop"

Run the following command to see what language/input the software is expecting:
    pgpwde --set-language --disk 0

It should show the following output:
Boot Language is set to KeyBoard=en    Display=en
    Boot Language unchanged
Request sent to Set boot languages was successful

If it does not show KeyBoard=en Display=en, then run the following:
pgpwde --set-language --disk 0 --display en --keyboard en

If that does not help, then we are definitely looking at an issue with the keyboard or dock itself.  Try unplugging the external keyboard and using the built-in keyboard on the laptop.

Thank you for the info Mike. But unfortunately that is not working. I have tried to install the PGP after removing the laptop form the Docking station but I was still getting the error. When I tried the command that you have given here I am getting the folling error

    Operation set boot languages failed:
    Error code -12000: bad parameters

Please suggest anything else I can try before creating a case with Technical Support.

    Regards,

    Ram

What output did you get when you ran the command without adding the parameters (i.e. pgpwde --set-language --disk 0)?  Was that when you got the bad parameters error?

It could be possible that something in your passphrase is registering as an invalid character.  Are you using any special characters which don't show up on a standard US EN keyboard?  Try creating a passphrase-only user with a very simple passphrase, such as Test123 without any special characters.

It is usually in older versions, but I have seen some passphrase issues when using special characters, such as:
    ^ ( ) [ ] { } | \ / "

If a simple passphrase works, then there is most likely something it doesn't like about your passphrase.  If you could, send me a private message with any non alphanumeric characters you are using in your passphrase and I can try to test or research on my end.
