Password protected PXE boot

I have the exact same question as with in this article:

Everything in that discussion is exactly relevant to my needs. Since that is 2 years old, I want to know if there is a friendlier way of doing this now as I am not confident enough to do what is suggested in that article.

Nothing has changed, as there have been no changes to the product. The same solution is still applicable.
