Password to uninstall offline SEP client is not working

Created: 14 Jan 2013 • Updated: 14 Jan 2013 | 5 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

I am totally perplexed by this situation.

We are testing computer images, and we are trying to uninstall SEP client that is offline. We know the uninstall password, yet when we attempt to uninstall the SEP client, it says that the password we supplied is incorrect.

We have been trying and trying, and making sure that SMC and related services are turned on. We even tried disabling the Windows firewall just for grins.

Why is this happening? This must be a common issue because how can SEP uninstall say we gave wrong password, even though we know what the password is. And I couldn't find anything in the Knowledgebase.

Please help!!!

Try this method:

Did you have a different password which the client may be using? An older one perhaps?

Disabling SMC service wouldn't stop the password prompt.

Brian, this image was created about a month ago, and we used all possible passwords to uninstall SEP.

So, I'm wondering if there is some service that SEP would be dependent on for the password-dependent uninstall mechanism to work in Windows OS. Perhaps a service that other programs, other than Symantec would depend on?

I don't believe it is dependent on a service.

Check this thread which is similar:
