  • 1.  Patch 7.1 -Empty status for software bulletin downloads

    Today I enabled a whole bunch of patches on my ITSM7.1 box. I staged the bulletins, closed the download window and went for a coffee.

    When I came back I thought i'd check out the status of the downloads (as per http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO48904) so I went to,

    Tasks-> Jobs and Tasks -> System Jobs and tasks -> Software ->Patch Management

    This screen should present the status of current tasks, with the option of seeing 'archived' tasks too. My screen here however shows nothing,

    I staged some more bulletins later on, and still the status screen here was blank. As sometimes the console will display nothing  just because it's waiting on data,  I left the window open to be sure it really was empty.

    If I open up the log viewer, I can PatchManagementCore tasks downloading away nicely, and later on my bulletins are indeed all downloaded nicely.

    Does anyone else see this? The event viewer is relatively clear of errors... ;-)

    the feedback I got was "as designed". Nothing formal in the way of a kb article though, sorry.

    Thanks Jim. Will raise this with Support then to confirm and argue the 'By Design' categorisation if need be. Will also post a link in the beta group to see if this is resolved in the latest version.

    Hi Jan -thanks. I've also got visibility problems on my clients too as it happens -the patch downloads all appear in the SWD tab of the agent. Something is screwed... ;-)

    Update: Support have just informed me that this is by design. So Jan.... you should call them to let them know that there is a bug as you *can* see this... ;-)

    Hi Ian,

    few questions:

    1. do I understand correctly that problem is limited to task information visibility and actual process of updates download does happen? (checking whether it's a problem with updates download itself or its reporting)

    2. may you check whether you get task instances shown properly for other tasks? (checking whether it could be a problem with Task Management installation)

    3. may you share results of the following query with us? 

    select it.Name, ti.TaskInstanceGuid from Item it
    join ItemVersions iv
    on it.Guid = iv.ItemGuid
    join Evt_Task_Instances ti
    on ti.TaskVersionGuid = iv.VersionGuid
    where it.Guid = '3d500009-23aa-477c-82a5-8b707c9f8c29'

    (it should list all task instances of download task)
