Hi All

Can someone please explaint the difference between Installed and Installed By User. We applied a policy to few  machines ,and observed that there are patches for which the status message is Installed whereas there are others which have status message as Installed By User.

Also there have been an instances where the patches are installed but the system account tries to install the patches again and they generally give the status message as installed by user.

Please suggest.

Hi Vikram,

The difference between Installed and Installed By User is as follows

When an update is installed on the client machine using NS Enabled policy then status is Installed.

To check the update installation NS uses Inventory Rules. The inventory rule evaluates to True when update is installed on machine. The status would be installed by user when an update is already installed and NS now checks whether an update is installed or not before rolling it out on the client machine, in case when the Inventory rule evaluates to True before update installation then the status would Installed By User.

The status can be Installed by User if Inventory rule evaluates to True for some other tool like Windows Update/WSUS

Thanks

Amol
