    Hi guys and girls !

We are testing patch mangement and the following question/error has appeared:

    - We are deploying Adobe Shockwave Player 11.6.1.629 through policy to all our client.
    - We have then afterwards distributed bulletin: "APSB11-27"

......but now both of the Adobe Shockwave Player versions are shown in add/remove programs ??? This must be an error right ? (Look at the attachment).

Question #1 --> I would have thought that the update to version 11.6.3.633 would have cleaned up after the install or am I mistaken ?

Question #2 --> In general what happens with the detection check when an application, which is deployed by policy, gets updated to new version ? Is the deteection check then "Not detected" and then installed yet again or ? How do you guys and girls managed this scenario - when you have a active policy distributing a application which is then patched ?

Hope someone can answer my questions ;o) Thanks.

    Best Regards/Kenneth

So for the v11.6.1.629 Software Release I would have an Applicability Rule that said something like:

    Not

    File Version

    > 11.6.1.629

According to Joel Smith's article, "Technical White Paper - Inventory Rules, Detection and Applicability Checks":

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/technical-white-paper-inventory-rules-detection-and-applicability-checks

Applicability checks are not used on Uninstalls, but I'd check that as I'm sure they used to be at least in 7.1 SP1.

With regards to the showing up twice in add/remove, this seems to be a problem with the exe installer from Adobe.  I saw the same behavior even when running the install manually until I downloade the MSI installer from Adobe and ran that.  It looks like the EXE installer doesn't properly clean the old install's registry entry, however shockwave does actually get updated.
