PBX is private branch exchange. It helps to limit the number of TCP/IP ports that NetBackup uses.
It also allows all socket communication to take place while connecting through a single port. The PBX port number is 1556.
PBX is a part of installation process during master server build.
Show us output of 'bpps -x' on YOUR linux master server - we will tell you.... Always best to be able to identify processes on your own server.
See this TN (applicable to NBU 7.1 as well): http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH142421

so in your output its
Shared Symantec Processes
I was reading PBX documents and it was documented that PBX allows all PBX based processes to receive comm on a single port.
What is all PBX based processes here?
You can see that you have one PBX process running.
This is the process that accommodates all connection requests between servers and clients.
I believe we have told this previously in your other posts:

If you need which processes connects between servers and between servers an clients, see the NBU 7.x process flow diagram:

Hi,
PBX based process means all client socket communication happens to take place while connecting through a single port.
For example, stopping PBX while there are active or queued NetBackup jobs will cause backups to fail with a Status 12 (file open failed), a Status 25 (cannot connect on socket), or a Status 50 (client process aborted), as well as other possible errors.
OK.Between master ,media and client servers?
Yes...Exactly
