PC anywhere to a pc with .255 address /20 bit mask

Created: 25 Oct 2013 | 1 comment

I believe this to be a bug with PCAnywhere in environments that have client pc's with, for example, a DHCP IP address of 172.26.34.255 and a /20 subnet mask (255.255.240.0). Gateway: 172.26.32.1

with a /20 bit mask you get;
CIDR Network 172.26.32.0
CIDR Address Range 172.26.32.0 - 172.26.47.255

When I tried to pcAnywhere into PC, packet captures show that when PC had IP 172.26.34.255 the PC initiating connection would attempt UDP connection to 172.26.34.1 through 172.26.34.254.

I reconfigured client pc from DHCP to static with ip of 172.26.34.235. Subnet mask of 255.255.240.0 (same subnet mask as before).

Uninstalled Altiris /clean.
Rebooted.
Deleted object from NS.
RDP into PC and installed Altiris and agents.
Ran full inventory.
Rebooted.
I was able to pcAnywhere into PC with that IP.

I believe this is a bug with PCAnywhere in environments with /20 subnet masks and host ip ending .255.

Thanks,
Giles
