PC Wakes from sleep every 30 minutes

  • 1.  PC Wakes from sleep every 30 minutes

    Ever since we upgraded to 7.5 we are now seeing pc's wake from sleep about every 30 minutes.  This is happening more on XP but also on Win7

    I have disconnected the Network cable to see if it is local and it appears to be.  When disabling the altiris agent it no longer wakes from sleep and I have seen this in the logs

     
    The system has resumed from sleep.

    I don't believe so.  I have Client Management and Asset Management.

    Hi Sonic,

    I guess these are the events from the Windows Event Viewer... can you supply us with the logs from the Symantec Management Agent side, on the same machine? Have you already compared them?

    The default location of the agent logs is %SystemDrive%\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec Agent\Logs.

    Yeah I did look at the logs and don't see anything out of the ordinary.  

    I'm not 100% convinced it is altiris.  I just re-enabled the agent and put it to sleep again and it doesn't seem to be doing it.  I'll take a look at the logs again from this past day when it was pretty consistant and post up what I find.

    ok it does appear to be altiris.  I don't see anythign special in the altiris logs, but when I have "wake timers" enabled in the windows 7 power option the altiris agent has a wake timer set.  This never seemed to be an issue until 7.5

     

    Here is what the wake timer says

     

    Timer set by [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume1\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\AeXNSAgent.exe (AeXNSClient) expires at 9:23:55 AM on 1/3/2014.

    Here is what I see in the altiris logs.  It does appear the wake timer is set when the 7.5 agent is installed as I had a machine with 7.1 and it did not have it.

    Hi SonicGT,

    Could you please verify the value you have in the following registry key?

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Scheduler\Wakeup Frequency (Mins).

    checking my pc this has a value of 60

     

    I did open a case with Symantec just waiting for them to get back to me.  After sending them the policy files from a pc they seem to thing its somethign with DS and have forwarded my ticket to the DS guys

    Hey SonicGT I'd really appreciate if you'd send back to us Symantec's feedback on this issue.

    Will do, so far for the last week I've been playing phone tag with support so nothing yet.

     

    We do have "wake timers" on our win7 image disabled, so this prevents it, but somehow on some of our machines they are getting enabled and then we see the issue.

    Hi SonicGT,

    I just want to let you know that I have worked with Symantec to get this bug fixed.

    They managed to reproduce it in their labs and have released a fix contained in 7.5 HF3.

    I can confirm it has been fixed in HF3.

    Yes I was told by them as well about hf3 solving this.  It has resolved our issues as well
