PCAnywhere 12.1 black screen on remote client

I am running PCAnywhere 12.1 host only version on my Windows 2003 Server.  One of my vendors uses Version 11.5 to access my server via TCP/IP for software support.  On intermittent occasions, when they connect to the server they receive a black screen on the remote side and cannot connect.  I have to stop the host  and restart it.  After this, everyone can connect fine.   Has anyone seen this problem or have a fix to it?

Hi Spudz,

Could you please check if you have the video drivers installed properly on your 2K3 server machine where you are running host?

Also just wanted to know if you have performed reboot after installing pcAnywhere 12.1 host on your server?

Thanks,

Pal

Another thing to try

I have had PCA 10.5 for years (2 pack) on a Win8 machine (never fails) and an XP machine. The XP machine (only) encountered the black-screen-with-flashing-cursor for several months.

I adjusted the host, resolution, Remote Access, and everything suggested here. Tried installing on another XP machine, gave up and bought PCA 12.5.

Still a black screen with flashing cursor; and yes, still my Win98 machine works just fine.

Finally, for the Remote, instead of using its machine name I used its numbered address (192.168.n.n) and whoola, it worked. Went back to my XP with 10.5 still installed, entered the numbered address.... it worked also!

If you have about given up, try the numbered address. Worked for me.

I can't imagine why this would work when the other didn't

I can't imagine why this would work when the other didn't but at the end of the day you got it working.  Way to go with getting creative to trouble shoot this.

cheers.
