PcAnywhere 12.5 erreur

This issue has been solved. See solution.

I use pcAnywhere for years to communicate between my house and my office. I recently purchased version 12.5 to install it at home on a new computer running Windows 7. I read that it is compatible with version 11.5, which is installed in my office. Version 12.5 only works from the desktop to the house. It is not able to connect to the office. Upon connection, the following message appears:

"Reduced level of encryption to remote Symmetric Encoding PcAnywhere. CryptoAPI is not available. Access denied."

The box has only the OK button. After a few seconds, the box disappears, PcAnywhere seems to connect (because it found the PC to the other end) but finally, a message indicates that the remote computer does not respond, so can not connect. To test, I installed the version 11.5 in the XP mode (Windows XP) and it works without problem!

Initially, the problem seems to be at the level of encryption. Indeed, running on the remote PC encryption 'pcAnywhere'. This level of encryption does not seem to exist in version 12.5 ... So I put the encryption's level in both places on 'None' but the problem continues.

I made another test. I installed version 12.5 on another computer at home, but it works in Windows Vista. PcAnywhere 12.5 connects without problem ...

Is the version 12.5 incompatibility with Windows 7? If yes, I do not understand because it is the latest version that Symantec sells. Thank you for helping me.

This is a problem with the Microsoft Crypto API on the win 7 macine.   This isn't a win 7 limitation but specific to this system.   I have seen this issue in xp and vista and it is machine specific.   Different encryption technoligies call to this microsoft api to deal with the encryption.

In my testing in the past creating a new user profile on the machine resolves the issue.   There is a key or file on the profile that is the problem in my experiance.   You may find other software that calls to the crypto API on your win 7 machine will also have issue.

Look in your windows application event logs for errors related to encryption on the windows 7 machine it may give more information about what is happening and the direction that is needed to be taken to fix the MS Crypto API.

Bonjour ICHCB,

Merci beaucoup.

Hi ICHCB,

I have read the writing on the link that you indicated in your message. I deleted all files in

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto.

Now the Remote's module of PcAnywhere works. Thank you very much.
