PCAnywhere 12.5 Mobile - Install and work fine in first time, after reboot stop working

MPC BR's picture

I have one HTC Touch HD (T8282) and when I Hard Reset and install PCAnywhere 12.5 for mobile, it works very well, connect everywhere. But if I reboot the phone and I try to run the program, it give me this message:

"The file 'pcAmobile' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of it's components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file."

But if I try to reinstall it gives to me this message:

"Installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it is not digitally signed with a trusted certificade."

I try to contact Support, but they didn´t help me.

Some things to try to resolve this security setting issue.

That is odd indeed.  I have an HTC but have not run into this problem I have installed pcA and then reset my phone several times for one reason or another and all I had to do was reinstall pcA and then my remotes that were stored on the memory card loaded right up each time.

Do you have any problems loading any other files? or installig any other applications like the updated adobe reader?
Can you open other files like pdf files with out error?  The reason I ask is that is sounds like a security setting in windows Mobile.

Here is a post from some one else about this error durring installs to windows mobile software.

"The program or setting cannot be installed because it is not digitally signed with a trusted certificate." on Windows Mobile
This error message means that either you (or your PDA) chose "No" when asked whether to install software from an unknown publisher.

If you did not explicitly tap on the "No" option, another program or message window may have popped up on your device's screen while the Unsigned prompt was displayed. Windows Mobile will automatically cancel an installation in that case, to prevent software from using malicious means to choose "Yes" to install itself.

To resolve the error, simply soft-reset your Windows Mobile PDA or phone and try the installation again.

But I didn't receive any prompt about Unknown Publisher or Unsigned Software!

This error message may also mean that your PDA requires software to be digitally signed in order to be installed. For the vast majority of Windows Mobile devices sold directly to consumers, software will not need to be digitally signed. A few devices - most notably the Sprint Nextel i930 and i920 Windows Mobile Smartphones - do require digitally signed software and may not be able to run our (currently unsigned) applications.

If you are trying to install our software on a Windows Mobile device provided by your employer, it is also possible that your employer has chosen to 'lock down' your Windows Mobile device to prevent unauthorized software installation. You may need to contact your IT department to see if this is the case."

I also googled some more and found this forum post about security.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=373319

and they mention the security configureation manager available from Microsoft.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/e/0/ee050170-bb0e-492a-aa9e-8f82bc2e1c5e/Setup.msi

I downloaded mine and checked my configureation type id Security Off.   you may want to look at this tool and see if you can change your security.  Or if it is corporate controlled hardware you might contact the admin and explain what is going on.

hope this helps.

Cheers

I try everything you say, but still not working...

Thank you for helping me.

Before this HTC Touch HD I had many others phone. The last one was Samsung Omnia with windows mobile 6.1 too. It works very well in Omnia.

Everything works very greate in HTC Touch HD, files, programs, etc. Only PCAnywhere has this error on my phone.

HTC changes the ROM version and I install it, but still not working PCAnywhere.

I try to make the changes you sugest but nothing change. still saying:

"Installation was unsuccessfull. The program or setting cannot be installed because it is not digitally signed with a trusted certificate."

So, I stiil have the problem, and Symantec Support don´t help nothing. I try many times to contact them and they don´t know what is happening. If they don´t know, Who Knows ?

If you have any new suggestions, thank you...

HTC Touch HD Windows mobile PCANYWHERE can not be turned off

I have followed all the above tips and PCANYWHERE will still work after any repeated number of installation and reinstallation,  AS LONG AS the phone is not turned off. As soon as it reboots, it stop working. Then I have to manually un install and re install all over again. The security on the phone is already set to OFF using Microsoft tool for Mobile.

Any one with HTC HD model manages to get this PCANYWHERE working without having to reinstall every time the phone is turned off?

I have a HTC Tilt and haven't had problems.

I have an HTC tilt and haven't had problems.   I wonder if the touch pro and the HD models are being treated like smart phones instead of pda phones?   I know that smart phones have problems and are not listed as supported.

I am due for a phone upgrade soon so I guess I will post my results when I get my new phone.

Cheers.

PCanywhere mobile 12 seems to

PCanywhere mobile 12 seems to have this problem on the newest HTC-models.

PCanywhere mobile 11.5 works fine on these phones.

Good to know thanks

Mark thanks for the update.  I haven't gotten my new phone yet but will try the older if it has problems.   What Htc do you have if you don't mind my asking.   And how do you like it?

I think it's a problem with pcanyhere mobile 12 and the newest windows mobile 6.1, not much we can do.

I work with the HTC touch cruise II and pcany 11.5
On the older models we work with pcany 12.5

Good luck.

uppercase letter -> lowercase

You may use it after touch up as follow

MFC80???.DLL -> MFC80???.dll                 \My Pocket PC\Windows

Be careful, you have to do it just after install.  You will loose these files in darkness if you reboot without  correction.

For changing extension, I used "GSFinder+".

(HTC TouchHD + pcA12.1en)

It seems HTC (wm6.1?) have trouble.

I have the same problem on a

I have the same problem on a brand-new, 2-day old Palm Treo Pro running Windows Mobile 6.1.  After the first install and reboot, same error and error report as original poster.

This is a huge problem as not only does a user sometimes need to warm boot the device, the Treo Pro comes with Sprite Backup from the factory.  Sprite Backup warm boots the device before every backup, therefore Sprite Backup breaks PCA if used.

This is highly unacceptable.  A manual uninstall did not seem to help my device - a full hard reset back to out-of-box state seemed to be required in order to get PCA back on the device.

Please, this needs a fix pronto.

12.5 does not work on Windows Mobile 6.5 either

I installed 12.5 Mobile on a HTC Touch Pro 2 (Tilt2).  It worked fine until the first device reboot.  It dispalyed the same cert issue and would not open after a reinstall.

I installed 11.5 and it works fine under Winmo 6.5.

I ran 11.5 on AT&T Tilt (v1) without issue.

Anyone have 12.5 running and know the differences compared to 11.5?

pcAnywhere 11.5 / 12 / 12.5 support

Regretfully you are going to have to settle for a downgrade to 11.5 in order to get anything to work.  I called Symantec's support line and, after 45 minutes of discussion, they opened a service ticket.  The following day I called back to check up on details and got their answer.  Here's the skinny:

Symantec stated that PCA WinMo 12.1, the version I have, is "not compatible" with WinMo 6.1 (the device I have).  They claimed that PCA WinMo 12.5 would be compatible with WinMo 6.1 (and after, I would assume) but would not send me an update - I would have to purchase the FULL pcAnywhere 12.5 package just to get the WinMo update.

As you've seen, even PCA WinMo 12.5 has problems with any WinMo version after WinMo 5 and Symantec seems in no rush to fix the problem.  They do not offer updates nor upgrades for PCA packages as they consider them "lifetime purchase products" rather than "subscription-based", and barely offer patches to PCA besides.

In other words, in regards to PCA Mobile 11.5 / 12 / 12.5 compatibility problems...we're on our own.  Symantec does not seem to wish to address the situation.  I have located a copy of 11.5 for my own WinMo 6.1 device - there are display tearing issues but forced redraws solve the problem.  Considering that 11.5 works after a reboot, it looks like I will have to settle for this (unpleasant / unfulfilling / inadequate) "solution" for now.   :(
