pcAnywhere 12.6.7630 (ITMS) error message problem and resolution

Created: 21 Mar 2012 | 1 comment

Problem: I was seeing the message below, researched it, and everything pointed to updating the various pcAnywhere bits and pieces on the server and clients.

So, after upgrading my SMP box (7.1 SP2) to the latest pcAnywhere version (12.6 SP2), then applying the 12.6 SP2 HF1 hotfix to the SMP server, then finally deploying the pcAnywhere Agent and latest update to some clients, bringing them up to 12.6.7630 as shown as the plug-in version in the GUI, I still saw the message once at every logon.

My resolution to this problem: Go into the pcAnywhere settings (Settings ~ Agents/Plug-ins ~ Remote Management ~ Remote Control ~ Windows ~ pcAnywhere Settings - End-user Systems), navigate to the Authentication tab, then delete all entries.  Save the policy.  Then, recreate the authentication account(s) and, after the clients get the updated policy, they shouldn't see the popup message any longer.

If you do still run into problems there is a defect also on this and a fix for it.
