The default setting is to disable the background and the visual aspects.    Do you have the pcAnywhere mirror driver disabled?   I don't think that the back up driver will disable the background or the other vidual aspects of a desktop.

If the host is not logged in then there is no desktop to disable and you will then authenticate to pcA.  It will try to disable the background but there isn't one at the login screen.  Once you login the background will load and at this point pcAnywhere won't reissue the disable background command.   If you disconnect from pcA and then reconnect since windows is now logged in you will see the background be disabled.

Take a look at this also.   If you are seeing extra poor performance across your wan connections with pcA quick connect it defaults to pcAnywhere encryption even if you don't choose encryption in your pcAnywhere settings policy.  If your wan connections use encryption then you can be double encrypting and this will choke the connection way down.

I just confirmed on a windows 7 box that has the pcAnywhere soltuion 12.6 installed by my Notification server 7.1.

I connected to the host that was at a login screen, I logged in and then had the full desktop and the other nice grfx that windows 7 has.   I disconnected from the machine but left it logged into windows.  The second time I connected to the machine it was still logged into windows and this time the desktop background was gone and some of the other nice GUI things had been downgraded.

I am sure the behavior is the same for the 7.0, and I know it is this way for the box product also.   What OS are you connecting to and from?   this may not happen in Linux or Mac I don't spend as much time in these host OS's.

cheers,

Thanks..

If I connect to a client that is connected to the network externally over vpn then it removes the background. If I connnect to a user on the LAN it keeps the background... Obviously some setting somewherethat I must be able to tweak. OS connecting to is Windows XP.
