pcAnywhere - Can't connect to a host computer from a remote

Created: 24 Aug 2012 • Updated: 28 Aug 2012 | 4 comments

Was able to connect to the host from the remote when the software was first installed.  Now I can't and don't see anything that has changed.  Updated the software to the latest verson on both the host and remote PC's, rebooted both, and still nothing.  At a loss and have been on the phone for over an hour just trying to get connected to the correct support specialist which still hasn't happened.  Ideas???

Did you check the software firewalls?

Are you on the same LAN as the remote?

I am having the same issue.  The PC in question had to have the Lanmanserver registry key rebuilt, and all is well in regards to networking.  We are on 12.5, and also have the source code vulnerability patch installed.  I can "quick deploy and connect" but cant connect using the pre-defined remotes.  The install was created using the pre-packaged method.  That same package has been deployed across 93 other sites without issue.  I have completely uninstalled the application, and deleted all associated folders in program files as well as all users\application data.  When I click the remote to connect, I am prompted to authenticate, which I do.  About 10-15 seconds go by, and I am prompted for authentication again.  Any ideas or recommendations?

Don't check the boxes for deploy and start host unless you are needing to have the host service started or are intending to push out the thin install every time.  This will add an aditional authentication step.

Is the host service running on the host?  if not then determine why not.  If needed you can use the start host as a workaround but it would be better to not have to check that box and then authenticate 2x once to start the service and once for pcAnywhere.

hope that helps.
