1. What version of PCA do you have?
2. Have you tried something with the default bandwidth settings and video settings for the session?
3. PCA itself is not the main limitation for possible performance.
What quality of service do you have for your WAN connection?
4. Any encryption in use for the session?

1)The version numer is 12.5.

2)Yes, i tried with options of slow bandwidth(4 colors) and i lost the comunication too.

3) we don't have quality of services

4) What is the implication of encryption use ?

Hello Edwinrg,

I recommend to use the patch provided by the knowledge base article below:

TECH174261: When using pcAnywhere across a WAN the video and file transfer function is extremely slow.
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH174261

Let me know your result with it.

Keep in mind that that patch disables encryption but if you are using the full pcA not the quick connect in pcAnywhere solution then you don't need that.   The quick connect defaults to a low level of encryption but if you use the full pcA you can select no encryption.

Encryption will take up a lot of over head especially if you are also encrypting the wan connections line on a vpn so disableing the encryption eliminates this.

I would ask that you update the video drivers on the host if you hadn't yet.  Assuming that the network doesn't suck for everything else and you don't have a vpn then the next thing that slows pcAnywhere down is a poorly written video driver.  Worth updating the drivers and the bios as a test.

Cheers

Hi ICHC, what do you mean what you say full pca. Is the access via web console?

The full GUI for pcA can be accessed if you are logged into the Notification server it is installed there.  Or if you have purchased a seperate from Symantec Managment Console copy of pcAnywhere it is often refered to the full version.

In your case login to the NS server and launch the full pcA (not quick connect).  If you have the option to go to Advanced view do so.    Then on the left hand bar under the pcAnywhere Manager locate the Quick Connect option.  I hope the screen shot below works type in the computer name or IP in the location noted and then also note in the lowest right hand option the encryption level selected you can change this to none to test if the encryption is conflicting with your environment and causing the poor performance.

If so then you can deploy the updated dll to disable the default encryption for the machines that are running the quick connect application.  I hope that helps.

Ah ok, but i have problems with the support area that use pcanywhere to resolve issues in the clients computers remotelly. How i can configure the default onlinne option to all users for they connect using low bandwidth option? Because actually the option of high bandwidth is the default option.

The low bandwidth masks the symptom but doesn't fix the problem usually usually the problem is that your end point networks are on a vpn connection and it is encrypting the data that pcAnywhere is already encrrypting.   Test like I had mentioned from yout server to a slow endpoint with no encryption and see if the issue is resolved.

If it is resolved with the server test then test with the updated dll that disables the encryption.  The low bandwidth setting default isn't configurable but can be changed once a connection is made.   Encryption is probably the root issue and there is an update that disables that.

cherrs.

ICBH, i received the notification of security recommendation from Symantec and i think disable the encryption not is the best option that i have.
Maybe i can should live with this and modify the online option during the conection.

I would at least test to determine if the issue is slowness because of the encryption.    Once you know the root cause you can then work towards resolving it.    I am not saying deploy that to every one just test it and if it is 100% better then you know the issue is releated to teh encryption step.   Setting the quality to low every time fixes the symptom but not the root cause.

cheers.
