Also, do you happen to have McAfee antivirus installed? The default behaviour of McAfee is to remove the executables from remote control software, so check whether your antivirus solution (if not McAfee) might be interfering with the PC Anywhere install. The A/V log(s) may help.

Is there a chance there was an active RDP session on that box that you were trying to start the service on?  The pcAnywhere host service can not start when there is an open RDP session, whether anyone is actively connected to it, or not.

Try setting it up for delayed start.

Start the service without a remote control...This might solve the issue....

Try rebooting the this particular computer. The service is set to start automatically. Upon reboot if the service is not started then you know there is an error with the service or underlying components and take the next troubleshooting step from there.

An updated installer and patches for some issues seen in pcA from the CMS 7.1 environment.

From the error it looks like you may be RDPed in to the client, make sure you are not as they conflict.

Here are some updates that resolve a few issues that were in the initial release.

PCAnywhere conflicts with Remote Desktop and if it is enabled will stop the service. Symantec was too lazy to write their own code for PCAnywhere. With the proliferation and use of RDP, a conflict was inevitable.

How about creating a task which will restart the pcAnywhere service? Just as quick as the net stop/start script and no need to establish a connection to the device. It would execute through the SMA using Task services.
