Yes, you will have to remove the agent before upgrading.

Extract from NBU 7.5 Dedupe Guide:

About media server deduplication limitations
NetBackup media server deduplication and Symantec Backup Exec deduplication
cannot reside on the same host. If you use both NetBackup and Backup Exec
deduplication, each product must reside on a separate host.
NetBackup deduplication components cannot reside on the same host as the
PureDisk Deduplication Option (PDDO) agent that is installed from the PureDisk
distribution.
You cannot upgrade to NetBackup 7.0 or later a NetBackup media server that
hosts a PDDO agent. If the NetBackup 7.0 installation detects the PDDO agent,
the installation fails. To upgrade a NetBackup media server that hosts a PDDO
agent, you must first remove the PDDO agent. You then can use that host as a
front end for your PureDisk Storage Pool Authority. (The host must be a host type
that is supported for NetBackup deduplication.)

Hi Marianne

Thanks for your reference,

After the upgrade do i still need to install PDDO agent ?

When we added the Media Server Deduplication Pool feature in NetBackup 7.0, any media servers that support that feature already include the PureDisk plugin.  Your NetBackup 7.5 install on Windows 2003/8 will already include the plugin.

So, no, you will not need to install the PDDO agent on your media server after upgrading to NetBackup 7.5.

I do not have 1st-hand experience, but if I read the manual correctly, it does not seem to be necessary.

Look at this last line of my extract from the manual:

You then can use that host as a front end for your PureDisk Storage Pool Authority.

My guess is that the HOWTO can be found further on in the same manual....
