Pending Archive Shortcut to Zero not cancelling items

Created: 26 Apr 2013 • Updated: 21 May 2013 | 5 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

I've got a mailbox with over 6000 items pending that I need to cancel.

If I bulk select within outlook I get the following error. It will let me do about 100 items at a time which is a bit time consuming.

I thought I'd try setting the pending shortcut timeout to zero but I cant seem to get it to work.

I've set to zero, synched the mailbox , then run report mode on the mailbox in question but after 30 mins all the pending items are still in there. Should I see something in the Event Log on reports folder because im not seeing either ?

Thanks

It should just "work"
There is probably something wrong with the archive task connecting to it so you may want to DTrace ArchiveTask to see if you're getting any background mapi errors

Just as a matter of interest, have you looked in to why you have so many pending?

Thanks Jesus,

I'll get the Dtrace on and see what I can find.

Ha thats the million dollar question ! At the moment I'm working on the theory that due to not having a SQL Maintenance plan (See my other thread) that our SQL box is in such a bad state that MSMQ performance has been very slow and may have contributed to the issues we are seeing.

This morning the queues are all at zero but I've had reports of several mailboxes where although new items have Archived some older items have stayed pending.

My plan is to cancel the thousands of pending items, run the Maintenance over the weekend and then try to Archive again hoping its made some difference.

I know from experience, no maintenance will slow EV to a crawl, with all kind of nasty sideeffects :-)

You might want to use DocMessageClass (look on Google for it) on those items. BUT I do suggest to make sure your maintenance runs fine, then just run the tasks in report-mode. If you can afford to run the weekend in reportmode, do that.

Have a good weekend.

@Paul.E.  Is anything else needed on this issue or can it be marked as resolved?

Hi Sorry yes DocMessageClass fixed my issue and since running a maintenance plan server health has improved no end ! :-)
