  • 1.  Performing In-Place upgrade of SEP client from 11.0.x to 12.1.x

    Posted Sep 23, 2014 10:09 AM

    Hi,

I have installed SEPM 12.1.4 server. Currently I am manageing both client version 11.0.z and 12.1.x from SEPM 12. I am performing SEP client autoupgrade in groups (Scheduled time).

My question is, does in-place upgrade of SEP client leave some orphaned data of old SEP client version (11.0.x)??

So far in-place upgrade is working fine without any problem, but I want to know if this is the recommended way to perform upgrade. Other and log way will be to uninstall SEM client from server - > reboot -> install SEP client 12 on it.

    Thanks,

There is no need to uninstall Old SEP 11 client .You can use autoupgrade feature for upgrading SEP 11.x client.

I suggest you to upgrade all the clients with autoupgrade feature. Upgradation is require to restart the clients in process.

It will remove all old SEP 11.x files/data and replace with 12.1

Thanks  James and AJ for quick response.

My question was "does in-place upgrade of SEP client leave some orphaned data of old SEP client version (11.0.x)??"

I am performing autoupgrade and making use of this feature without any problem as I mentioned in my question. I dont know whether this in-place upgrade leave any trace of older client like some obsolete .dll, or some other orphaned file.

My concern is if in-place upgrade of client will leave some obsolete files this will be vulnerable and can be explaited in future.

    Regards,

Yes there is no issue you can be go with old version on such client but for all feature and benefit of new version you require to upgrade.

It is possible some orphaned files are left but I can't say for sure as I've been off of 11.x for some time now. Although they would be unusable.
