    Hi,

Having issues decrypting a file *.dat.pgp.  Somehow the output has changed into a different name and different extension like *.txt which should be *.dat file.   Decrypt the pgp file with an older version of PGP Desktop and it worked fine.  Is there a settings on this or a way to fix it?  Please help.

    Thanks you!

Please use the Create Content button towards the top of the page to create your own topic/thread on this.  This will give your concern the visability to help you get the help you deserve.

You might try decrypting both from the right click context menu, and from within the PGP Desktop menu, to see if either will produce your desired result.

    Hi,

Per your advice above,  we have decrypted both ways and the result is still the same.  As this is only happening on the new version of PGP Desktop 10.1.2.    A user with the old version 9 and it decrypted to the right file name format.  Please help.

    Thank you.

Does it help to change the file name from *.dat.pgp to *.pgp before the decryption?

No, the name changed did make any differences.  Somehow it is decrypting the file Tip_062911.dat.pgp to this file TOYOTA_ENCRYPTED_FILE.TXT instead of Tip_065911.dat, which that's how the old version of PGP Desktop decryption worked.

    Please advise.

    Thanks!

When I use the file's encrypted name on a file I encrypt, it decrypts to the oiginal file's name.  So, I'm guessing that it is actually file TOYOTA_ENCRYPTED_FILE.TXT that is encrypted to the file name Tip_062911.dat.pgp?

I believe I have the answer for you:

On the Advanced tab of PGP Options, select "Ignore Embedded File Names When Decrypting."
