    Hi,

I am trying to upgrade to 10.1.2 build 50 on a OSX  v10.6.7 and this message is un passable. What could prevent the installation, or in other what are the things the installer is checking for? Is there a log file that would record more details?

    Thanks,

    Virgil

A common cause for this complaint is a in progress encryption or decryption.

Double click the PGP installer package then click on Window - Installer Log, set the detail level to "show all logs"

this will show the installation process and possibly a relveant error message as to why PGP will not install correctly.

It is 100% unencrypted, but there is a paused encryption, and I'm not sure how to quit it, as it revives after each reboot. I would prefer to update unencrypted, if possible.

Thank you, I tried it and the message just says: Installation check failure.  PGP Desktop can’t be installed on this computer.. This software can’t be installed on this computer..

Plain silly error capture if you ask me.

I'm not sure what you mean  by this response:

It is 100% unencrypted, but there is a paused encryption, and I'm not sure how to quit it, as it revives after each reboot. I would prefer to update unencrypted, if possible.

Is this disk 100% unencrypted (which would imply that your only option is to encrypt the disk)

    or

Is this disk mostly unecrypted with a "pause" button viewable in the top right when viewing the PGP Disk?

Did you try to click PGP in the top left (by the apple logo) and then sleect Uninstall. To see if that gives an error message?

When viewing PGP disk, I have a grayed out Resume button, with the Progress bar at 0% Complete (which I interpreted at 100% unencrypted), and Status Encryption paused.

The uninstall gives the message: you have disks that must be decrypted...

There is no button to exit this in limbo state, the only thing I can do (visibly) is to reboot and enter a passphrase for the encryption and let the WDE finish. Is it safe to to the update after the WDE?

Try a pgpwde --decrypt command from windows command prompt

    such as:

cd c:\program files\PGP Corporation\PGP Desktop (or program files (x86) if you are on a 64-bit OS

pgpwde --decrypt --disk (disk number) -p "passphrase of user here"

If you are unsure what users are added to the disk do a:

    pgpwde --list-users --disk (disk number)

If you aren't sure which disk is encrypted do:

    pgpwde --enum

This should list which disks are online and encrypted

Let me know the results, if you cannot decrypt there. You might have to try a recovery CD or putting the drive in another machine that has PGP Desktop installed to decrypt.

While it isn't fully encyrpted, it sounds like the encryption process started and instrumented the drive but was then paused.

    Good luck!

    Ben

Thank you for all your help, in the end I caved in: I continued the encryption and then the update completed (with no secondary effects).
