PGP Desktop error message

Created: 12 Apr 2011 | 1 comment

Hi,

I am getting the error message below when I try to decrypt a file:

It is not possible to decrypt this message because your keyring does not contain usable private key(s) corresponding to any of the above public key(s).

What can I do to fix this?  PGP was just installed on my computer, and my IT department isn't able to help me.

Thanks!

The message is normally the result of the encryption really not being to your public key.  The message may also be indicating what public key it is encrypted to, or may refer to "unknown keys."  If it has the phrase "unknown keys," you may be able to click on it to see what keys were encrypted to.

Sometimes, the encryption is to your public key, but your key is not set to having Implicit Trust.  If you believe the message may really be encrypted to your public key, right click on it in All Keys, select Properties, and make sure Trust is set as Implicit.
