  • 1.  PGP Desktop Fingerprint with Duplicated values?

    Posted Sep 08, 2015 07:02 PM

I just generated my PGP key the other day and I noticed something possibly odd.

I took a look at my fingerprint to see what it was and sone of the Keywords generated are exactly the same (see photo).

I looked at the hexidecimal version and assuming each 2 chars (based off of length and amount of words) gives a different word I shouldn't have any duplicates. (Because none of the hexidecimal numbers are duplicates.)

I know I don't understand how the words are really generated but I was wondering if this is a common occurence or if there should be anything I should be concerned about? My systems RNG etc?

    Thanks for your help.

Shouldn't be anything to worry about, repetition happens.  As long as it is not on a grand scale, it shouldn't matter.  If you look at the Hex fingerprint, you have 'F0' at the beginning of two of the character sets, which line up with 'unearth' in the Biometric.  F005 = unearth almighty, and F03E = unearth, cumbersome.

I totally missed the 'F0'. Yeah I was mainly just curious since I didn't know how the keywords were generated.

    Thanks.
