  • 1.  PGP desktop-how to decrypt a file in one step

    Posted Mar 22, 2014 02:47 PM

    Hi,

I'm trying to migrate several of our client workstations to Symantec's PGP desktop from PGP8.   I've got it set up and it will decrypt the file but puts it in a PGP window. Then I have to drag the file back to the folder where the PGP file is located where I want both files to remain (encrypted &decrypted).  I was able to do in one step with PGP8 (previously used) before.

    can you help?

    thanks...

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

If you are decrypting .pgp files you can right-click the file and select Symantec Encryption Desktop > Decrypt & Verify "filename.extension.pgp".
It will prompt for the filename if there is already a file with the same name in that folder, otherwise it will store both files without prompting anything (considering that the key passphrase is cached).

thank you...   now another issue: we don't want this product interfacing with the Outlook client.  It's causing 10 second delays in opening email on our shared data / "public folders" ...how do we disable PGP from doing that?   We only want to use to decrypt or encryt individual files.

    thank you,

    Steve

    Hi...

We’ve got another issue that’s creating a problem.  We only want to use to decrypt or encrypt individual files and don't want this product interfacing with our Outlook clients.  It's causing 10 second delays in opening email on our shared data / "public folders."

I’ve looked through the users guide and online but can’t figure out how to disable PGP from monitoring the Outlook client.   If you could possibly point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.

    Thank you,

Hi Steve, You can disable the messaging service in the Consumer Policy (managed client) or in the Options menu (standalone client). If that doesn't work for you, you need to uninstal the MAPI component. Please see: Encryption Desktop (formerly PGP Desktop) installation MSI switches to disable components at installation http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO84112 Additional reference: How to extract the Symantec Encryption Desktop MSI Installation File from the .exe standalone installer http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH167331 Rgs, dcats
