My computer crashed (blue screen of death, windows Vista 64 bit) and when I rebooted, PGP Disk was no longer licensed.  To make matters worse, the spreadsheet that I use to keep track of ALL of my passwords, user IDs, license keys etc. is on that encrypted disk.  Is there any way I can decrypt it without a PGP license?  Or get the license key back?  I tried doing system restore but it didn't bring back the license.

I'm using PGP Desktop version 10.0.3 Build 1.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.  ALL of my personal stuff is on that encrypted disk and it's not like I lost my password or didn't back it up or anything.  The virtual disk is just fine, I just can't access it because PGP lost its licensing information.

    Sincerely,

    Dan Martin.

Customer Care might possibly help you with your license key.  You can also download the trialware and use it during its trial period to have Virtual Disk licensed temporarily.

Thanks for the suggestion but Trialware won't work with virtual disks.  I guess I'll have to try support.  I'm not willing to wait hours much less days (which is how these things usually go noadays) though.  I guess I'll probably end up buying PGP AGAIN!!  But this time will be the last time.  I'm going to switch to drivecrypt and give up on PGP.  This is the second time I've had a problem with PGP losing its license.  The last time I was probably due for an upgrade anyway and paid for it but it's only been a couple of years since I paid for it this time.  I really don't want to have to pay for it again.  This was why I trashed ACDC.  They used to be a good program but I had to keep paying for it over and over again (in their case, it was for upgrades).  From now on, I'm going with open source as much as possible because I'm really sick and tired of having to pay for the same software again and again and again.

To anybody who's reading this, I strongly advise against buying PGP.  It's a pain in the you-know-what and very unintuitive and even after Symantec bought them out, support is still worthless.

Whew!!!  Finally got it working again.  I will take one thing back though.  Symantec's customer support was very nice and pretty quick but navigating your way through Symantec websites is absolutely insane.  Once I finally got my license key (I had to go to licensing.symantec.com which I could never have figured out if I hadn't been forced to CALL them .... on the phone!  I don't do phones any more! :)

Anyway, I had to uninstall the evaluation version I'd downloaded and FINALLY, after MUCH trial and error, I figured out that I had to enter "Authorized User" as the name instead of my actual name and "Authorized Comany" instead of "n/a" which is what I originally needed to do to sign up.  I also had to download a version one level lower than I had originally (though it doesn't appear to be any difference).

Well, anyway.  After 6 hours (it would have been FAR less painful to just pay for the upgrade), I FINALLY got it working.

    Dan.

Apologizes for the problems. Probably licensing team forgot to detail in deep the authorization process.

    Please mark post as solution.
