  • 1.  PGP Desktop prevents safe removal of USB key

    Posted Jun 10, 2011 02:05 AM

Before installing PGP Desktop 10.1.1 (Build 29) on a corporate Windows 7 Professional 64-bit system, safely remove USB device (e.g. a USB thumb drive) works as expected. After installing PGP Desktop, safely remove for a given USB device works OK until I write something to it, or open a file on the USB drive. Thereafter it consistently reports that "The device is currently in use." and refuses to safely remove. Sample event viewer entry reads..

Device action request for device 'USB\VID_0718&PID_0433\078A1217155A' was vetoed by 'STORAGE\Volume\_??_USBSTOR#Disk&Ven_Imation&Prod_Nano&Rev_PMAP#078A1217155A&0#{53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}' with veto type 6.

Sysinternals Process Explorer indicates that no processes are locking the device.A work colleague confirms that the same happens to him. The problem only starts happening after PGP is installed.

    Regards, John M

I have this same problem.  This is halting our rollout of WDE.  May be a show stopper.

This has been reported to Tech Support and I believe it is/was being investigated as a bug.  If you have a current support account, you may want to open a ticket.
