  • 1.  PGP Desktop Version 9.9/10

We have a NetWare environment.  6.5 SP8 to be exact.  We have found with the more recent releases of PGP Desktop Professional (all after 9.6.3) will not shred files on the NetWare server.  We need to move the files to the desktop, then shred.  This is in violation of company policy.  Has anyone else encountered this and is there a fix?

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Ed,

Moving the files to the desktop and then shreding will not actually shred the files on the server - you will efectively be only deleting them and then shreding a copy on another system.

To understand your use case are you trying to shred from a PGP Desktop instance on the server, or from an instance on the client over a share?

What is the version of OS on the client and the version of the OS on the NetWare Server?

Have you tried with the latest release of PGP Desktop (10.2 MR1)?

    Cheers,

Hi Michael, thank you for your reply.  The environment consists of XP Desktops connecting to a NetWare server.  6.5 sp8 to be exact.  Users keep files on the server that they need to shred using PGP desktop shredder.  PGP resides on the users PC, not the network unfortunately.

Older versions of PGP shredder could shred over the network.  9.6.3 for example will shred files on the NetWare server.  Versions after 9.6.3 seems to not have that function available or, we are missing something in our install.  This may be by design although I can find no documentation for this.

Unfortuantely, we do not have support for this product and I have not found additional users who have this problem.

    Thanks again

So , things to try ...

Try PGP Desktop 10.2 MR1 as it may have fixed the issue - or not as the case might be. You should be able to look at the trialware.

I've just verified function using 10.2 on a file over CIFS/SMB - the shell extension(right click > pgp desktop > pgpshred) works however mileage may vary on NetWare.

    Apologies for the delay.

    Cheers,
