I just purchased this and received the product key. It was successfully installed on my computer but now when i click "Encrypt" it says it will take 210 days to complete. I don't understand how this is possible, especially since the computer is brand new. Please let me know how to fix this. Did i do something wrong?

You are correct that 210 days to encrypt is not right.  It might help to state what computer model you have, its processor, the disk size and whether it is a solid state disk.

I suggest try to encrypt anyway...that message is probably wrong.

There is some known issues (with certain models) where the UI will report incorrectly the wrong amount of time to encrypt the disk. If you continue with the encryption, you should find that it will take hours and not days.

we have noticed that since upgrading to PGP 10.2 MP3 the whole disk encryption seems to take a lot longer than before

MP3 has as known issue for this. I would recommend going to MP4 which is publicly available right now or else MP5 will be out in the first week of April.

Just to be safe. Test it out on a few machines that are affected by slow encryption and ensure that it works before upgrading all your production.

We did not install MP4 as we were told that there were a lot of problems with it. I did try installing it on one of our PGP 3.2 servers but the upgrade failed, and we have always been advised to upgrade the servers before upgrading the clients.

would you recommend disabling  power failure safety mode  in the PGP Desktop policy?

You could try disabling power failure safety for a workaround. I have a few small (abstract) cases where encryption is still slow even with power failure safety mode disabled.  You may wish to consider upgrading to 3.2 MP5 with a test environment to see how it works with your backup.

What kind of problems were you seeing in relation to the upgrade to 3.2 Mp4?  Are you using Vmware for your server or is it a physical server? have you read our system requirements as well for PGP universal server? Many of the upgrade problems I have seen come from having vmware and not having vmware tools installed (documented in our release notes and upgrade guide) or else not meeting hardware level requirements (not enough ram, not enough disk space, etc).

let me know, since I am interested in helping wherever I can
