I've installed PGP desktop about 6 months ago, and never used the PGP disk facility. On attempting to use it recently, it requests a PGP passphrase when mounted, even although I created it with a local self-signed key.

    What am I doing wrong?

Can you provide more details about your disk?

Is this a fixed disk mounted on your system or are we talking about virtual disk. if this is regarding a PGP whole disk encryption then check if the disk has that user added in PGP desktop.

Then you need provide the key password to in order to unmount that virtual diak, which is encrypted to your key.

You can change how long PGP Desktop caches your passphrase, inside Tools > Options > My Passphrase

I fixed my own problem in the end. I created a new self-signed key, gave it a new passphrase and now everythings OK.
