PGP EMail address change

Created: 18 Feb 2013 | 6 comments

Hi,

The company I work for have brought another company. The users of this company will be having their email accounts changed so their addresses are the same as the rest of the organisations.

A few of these users are using PGP to encrypt their emails.

If their email address changes is there a way for them to continue to use the same PGP keys?

If there is how do I do this? Is is just a question of exporting the public and private key from their existing email account and importing to the new one or is it mor involved than that?

Thanks

David

If the keys are just handled within PGP Desktop, instead of centrally managed, each user can right click on their key, select Key Properties, and select Add New Email Address.  They can then delete their old User ID if they wish.

Thanks.

I've been and added the new address but it seems to create it as a subaddress of the main one and the master keys are still using the old email address. Is there a way to make the new email account the default one and to have the master keys reflect this?

If I'm understanding this correctly, you should be able to right click on the new User ID in PGP Desktop All Keys and select Set as Primary Name.

Hi, not sure yet as the change over of accounts has been put back by a week.

In the meantime on a test but inacitve PGP set up I've added the new address and made this the primary one. I notice that it has changed the master key but in the messaging section it has left the old address even though it is showing it as using the new keys.

Can I just change this bit manually once the new accounts are active?

Thanks

Is this in reference to what is being shown as Default Key in Account Properties?  If so, I think you can use the down arrow on the right side to select and display the new email address.
