Am a non-technical person trying to understand why I'm getting the following error message when trying to import a pgp private key:

"Failed to load keyring files: Invalid keyring packet sequence"

The public seems to load fine, just the private key is the issue.

    Any help appriciated.  Thanks.

It may be a corruption in the exported private key.  A new export to you may take care of the problem.

This error results only when importing this particular key?

What PGP version are you importing with?

What PGP version exported the key?

    Hi Tom,

The GnuPG version is 1.4.11 and the file version is 1.4.11.29110.

We are trying to upload it into a Treasury Management System.  To do so we created the key at my company in Australia but it is being uploaded into a third parties US hosted TMS system (hosted independent of my company).

This is the first time we've used PGP keys and have been successful with the public key.  If we go for a new export do you have instructions on how to achieve that (commands etc)? We are kind of learning as we go along here!

    Any thoughts?

I haven't played with GnuPG for a very long time, and just don't know if there may be some hash or algorithm that can be chosen in that version that is not compatible with PGP.  I believe their web site has an FAQ that includes a section on compatibility with PGP.

Are you using PGP in this process?  If so, what version?
