Desktop Email Encryption

I've read through the posts here, but I can't see anything close to my situation.

First I'll give you some background.

The company I work for recently closed a nearby office, laid off most of the staff and transferred what remained to our office. Along with the staff came PGP Desktop V10, and an account that receives encrypted email.

Among the staff that was let go were the IT staff and the person that was responsible for handling the decrypted email.

In the confusion of all the changes it appears that right around the time of the closure the PGP keys were changed by old staff. Unfortunately, no trace can be found of the new keys.

The result of this is we have an inbox containing encrypted mail, and no keys to decrypt it with.

I'm aware that this is a long shot, but is there any way to open these email messages?

    Thank you for your time.

    Peter.

Unless you can somehow obtain the needed private key(s) there is no way to decrypt the email.  Key Reconstruction might possibly apply to your situation.

Well , there is no way to open that email messages unless they were encrypted to and additional key.

You can see this when opening the file with PGP, key and passphrase are prompted.

Keys are always backed up in My Documents\PGP folder.

They can be .asc or .skr.

As final option, I would try contating the former system administrator.

    Keep us updated
