  • 1.  PGP for Mac OS 10.4.11

I currently have a Mac G4 ibook with OS 10.4.11.  I was using PGP Personal Desktop 8.1 until my hard drive crashed.  I thought I made a backup copy of PGP on a zip disk but cannot find it.  My problem is, I have a number of CD's encripted with PGP that I can no longer access.  Is there a version of PGP that will work with OS 10.4.11?  At this time, I'm unable to buy a new computer but I still need access to the encripted CD's.  Can someone help me out with this?  Thanks.

I believe that you'll have to upgrade to 10.5 to run PGP 9 or 10.  I doubt that 8 is available at this point (expect it was lost in the acquisition), and I'm pretty sure 9 and 10 won't run on 10.4.  It's been almost 5 years - probably time to upgrade anyway.

If I were to gain access to a computer using OS 10.5.8 or higher, and were to install 9 or 10 on it, would I then be able to access the information on the discs encripted with 8?  I still know the passphrases, or am I still out there and the information is just lost and irretrivable?

Yes, I've done that with no problem.

Thank you, Mallardduck.  My parents told me I could use their Macbook Pro with OS 10.5.8.  I believe I'll buy the version of PGP that is compatable with that OS and save my files.
