So I have some XP clients that are using the new PGP netshare build Build 4869. The folders are accessible via the PGP universal server policy and the users can read the contents of the encrypted files. One thing that is missing though is the little lock icons. I have never seen the lock icon missing on a PGP protected folder or file. How do I fix this issue with the missing lock icons for these users? I also noticed that if the users right clicks on the folder\file and goes to properties, they are also missing the PGP netshare tab. If I clear the caches and access the folder, pgp netshare shows the unlocking of that folder.  I reinstalled the PGP client several times, even using the two previous versions, same problem. Can someone please help with this weird problem? Thanks

That does sound a bit strange.  What happens when somone who doesnt have PGP tries to access that folder?  Does the lock icon appear then? (it shouldnt)

What happens when you try to Netshare encrypt another folder, do you get the lock icon then?  Wonder if its some flag on that folder that's not correctly there.

Try using the commandline tool on the folder to see what information that returns:

    pgpnetshare --list c:\encryptedfolder --output-file c:\encryptedfileoutput.txt --verbose

That might shed some light on the situation.

If all else fails, I would remove all encrypted and reencrypt into a new folder

    Thanks for the reply..

I tried accessing the folder on a computer with no PGP netshare installed. No icons on the folder or the files, as you said that is normal. My account obviously has the AD group credentials to access that folder, when I opend the files in that folder they are not readable, meaning they are encrypted. So the funcionality is still working.

We created a new netshare folder using one of the XP machines effected by this icon issue. We added the proper users and group keys and it encrypted the folder with no problem. The folder never displayed the lock icon on it. I viewed that folder on my computer and I was able to see the PGP lock icon.

I also used the command line to verify the folder, everything seemed fine, all the keys are in place and the folder is indeed encrypted.

I have no idea what to do, we reinstalled the PGP netshare application three times already using three different versions. I made sure I removed all the appdata content and even removed the keys and created new ones, nothing seemed to help remedy the issue.

Just a thought, are there any custom skins or themes that might be altering with the normal icons that display?  Any visual aids or any software of that nature install on these machines ?  See if you can manually assign the PGP Encrypted icon from right click > properties > customize.  That might kick it back into life
