My laptop crashed yesterday and upon restart an error message apprears that won't allow the system to reboot. The repair shop has tried to retrieve the data but they say that due to the encryption, they cannot copy/access the data. I purchased PGP version 9.8 back in 2008 and to be honest I don't think I have any recovery / back up discs.

How can I recover this data?

Can I just reinstall PGP onto my new laptop and read it that way?

All help would be appreciated as I urgently need to get the data recovered from my laptop.

    Hi Tiernanb,

It seems that you are running an out-dated version of the PGP Desktop product, although a new version upgrade is recommended at these instances, we would first need to recover your data back by decrypting the disk, and afterward proceed with product upgrade.

Please refer to the following KB article for further reference:

Please advise if you have any other concerns.

    Thanks and best regards,

I have purchased a version back in late 2009 (Dec 24th) & my hard drive crashed.  I need to reinstall the latest version of 9.x (My maintence ran out on 2010 Dec 24th).
