  • 1.  PGP Universal - MAC or MTU cannot be modified on VMWare hosted servers

    Posted Aug 29, 2011 03:23 PM

    Good Afternoon,

I am having issues with my PGP Universal Server installation. I am attempting to create a second network interface in the Admin Console, and everytime I try to add the new interface, I receive the error:

MAC or MTU cannot be modified on VMWare hosted servers

When the error comes up, it draws a red box around the MAC ID and MTU boxes. I have reviewed the product notes, and installation instructions that indicate that I need to clear out the MAC ID, Link Speed and MTU boxes, however, I can only clear the MAC ID and MTU. The Link Speed requires a setting, so in this case it is set to Auto.

I have tried inputting the MAC ID associated with the adapter, and that doesn't work either. I even created a new adapter in VMWare, and that is a no go as well.

How can I go about creating a second Interface.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

What you are experiencing is expected, from the PGP Universal Admin Guide,

"MAC ID, MTU, and Link Speed are not applicable to PGP Universal Server hosted on VMWare. The ESX server controls the network settings. "

PGP Universal Server 3.2 does not show this behavior anymore. Once you upgradedto this version you can add additional interfaces even on VMware installations
