    RECENTLY RESOLVED

    PROBLEM:

I'm running PGP 10 on a Elitebook 8540 w with Windows 7. I installed PGP on the boot hardrive, last week I was not able to boot anymore. With the help of the Start image I could get it running again.  Now I would like to replace the hardrive and use the hardrive in an other machine.  So Yesterday I started the decryting of the hardrive, it was mentioned it will take a while. OK. 24 h later it is at 73 %

Can I stop the decrypting process by shutting down the hardrive and than accesing the data? Otherwisle I have to wait nearly a week to get the Decyrpting off the 250 GB hardrive.

Currently it is stuck at 73 % for the last 4 hours.

Anyway if anyone has an idea, let me know. Thanks

    COMMENTS:

It sounds like you are using the PGP WDE Recovery CD to decrypt the disk.  If this is the case, stopping the decryption will cause you to lose access to any of its data.

    --------

thanks for the fast feedback, yes indeed I am using PGP WDE Recovery CD for this decrypting.

So I will not touch the system for the next days and let the decrpyting process finish.

Is the decrypting process "speed" depending on the data stored at this location.?

    RESOLUTION:

I don't know if that may be the case, or if sometimes the percentage encrypted just lags.  A lot of people have reported such lags with the decryption finally succeeding.  I recently had the occasion to twice decrypt my 750 GB desktop disk, with it taking five days each time.  I didn't notice any such lagging, but didn't observe it most of the time.  This 16 bit processing takes very long on a large capacity disk.  I'm not sure how much the processor matters, but mine is a high end quadcore processor.
