PGPcommandline on AIX 5.3 uses 100% cpu

Created: 14 Apr 2011 | 3 comments

I have installed an evaluation copy of PGPCommandline 10.1 builds 52

on AIX 5.3 . After the install I ran the simple command

viper:/] # pgp --version
PGP Command Line 10.1 build 52
Copyright (C) 2010 PGP Corporation
All rights reserved.

The command took almost 2 minutes to run,

and from another prompt , see that the system

is maxed out of cpu time, and there is a great deal of disk i/o.

Because this is an eval copy, I don't have support.

How do I get thru this issue so i can evaluate this product.

Are you running as the root user?

There is an issue running Command Line on AIX 5.3 as the root user where commands can take minutes to complete.  This will be fixed in the next version.  The workaround is to run as a non-root user.

The product was installed as root, and I ran as root.

How do I run as a non root user ?

If there isn't one on your system, you'll need to create a new user account, and then log in as this user.  You don't need to re-install PGP Command Line, but it would be simplest if you did a re-license as this user.
