  • 1.  PGPdisks and Mac Spotlight did not work (known-issue)

    Posted Sep 14, 2012 11:15 AM

    Hello all,

I use a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.8.1 and PGP Desktop Enterprise 10.2.1 Build 4940.

I did not use whole disk encryption (I'm not a suicide), but rather PGPdisks (so hopefully I'm right in this forum).

Creating and mounting works fine with these virtual disks. The problem is, I cannot configure Spotlight to index this virtual disk.

Spotlight reconize that this virtual disk is a kind of extra partition. I try use the following command to enable spotlight:

    mdutil -i on /Users/xxx/Documents/Daten/01-Archiv

    and always get the message:

    /Users/xxx/Documents/Daten/01-Archiv:
    Indexing and searching disabled.

Anybody out there, who has the same problem or better have a solution for that?

    Regards,
    ryder

@ryder - PGP Desktop 10.2.1 MP3 is not compatible with Mac OS X 10.8 yet.  Symantec plans to address Mac OS X 10.8 support in a future maintenance pack.  It will be PGP Desktop 10.2.1 MP4.  Please keep an eye out for this update, you can also subscribe to product alerts to be notified when this update is available.

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&key=59260&channel=ALERTS&basecat=ALERT&sort=recent

In the top right corner of that page you will see a link that says Subscribe: Email. Click that link and you can be setup to be notified as soon as the next release of PGP Desktop is available.

I am asking you to wait till this update is out because we are addressing 4 or 5 bugs that I see related specifically to Virtual Disk on Mac OS X 10.8.

    @PGP_Ben,

thanks for you hint. Now MP4 is available and I tested it, but the issue still exists. Do you have any further suggestions?

    Regards,

    ryder

Sorry, i just did some searching on old bugs. This is verified as a known issue. It's a limitation with our software. if this is a feature that you need I would recommend creating a new idea submission on our website here:

I am very sorry that it came to this (getting the runaround) that was certainly not my intention. I wish that I would have found that old bug report prior to my post about the update. But, understandably so, we did fix several issues with Virtual Disks not mounting or showing up in Finder, etc on Mac OS X in recent MP's.
