Have a user that is running PGP WDE version 10.1.  The PGPtray.exe in task manger is using a high amount of memory usage and causing her applications to run very slow and there is a ton of latency when trying to go from one application to another.     Once I kill the PGPtray task in TaskMgr everything starts to respond as it should.

What is the purpose of the PGPTray?  Can we turn it off without losing the effect of the encryption?

If the PGPTray is needed then why is the memory utilization so high?

there's a known issue with PGP tray having high utilization, this is caused by the netshare dll. Unregistering the netshare dll has helped, i've only seen this issue on a windows 2008 server that was used for a terminal server. the first user is fine, but then additional user's login and then PGP tray users 50-60% CPU.

CPU utilization is fine, it is the memory utilization that is high. Over 1.1 Gig of memory used by the PGPTray.exe app

    sorry mis-read

i've seen PGP tray go 'crazy' and have high memory usage but a reboot/restart services generally fixes the situation. Is this 10.1, or 10.1.1? OS version? 64/32 bit?

Sarah Thanks for your response.  Sorry if i wasn't clear in my original posting about it being memory.

The version is 10.1.0.  It is on a 32 bit XP Pro machine.  A restart fixes the problem for short amount of time, but then comes back after time logged in.  I need a permanent fix.

You can restart PGP services from the tray as well. Right Click PGP icon in task bar and select Exit PGP services. then wait 1-2 min then launch PGP desktop from he start menu (this will start up all of the PGP services again)

I'd check to see if this issue occurs on another user account on the machine, if the issue doesn't occur it might be a good idea to re-set enrollment for the affected user. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO42029

I use PGP desktop in a managed environment (PGP universal server), so i don't know what the effects of "resetting enrollment" will do with a standalone PGP Desktop.
