This issue has been solved. See solution.

ok,newbie here.i have a problem with my SEP(v11.0) My computer broke down in febuary and only got it working in march. when i switch on my SEP,my antivirus and antispyware definations were out of date...
After clicking on liveupdate,it takes a long time, then an error message regarding that i have multiple live updates running pops out.
If i press fix, then the SEP will lag for a while then there is this: switch to-retry message. When i press switch to,my start menu pops up but does nothing.
when i press switch to again, same thing happens...
help please!

Hi, Please go to Task Manager

Hi,

Please go to Task Manager -> Processes.

You will see a process called as "luall.exe". You need to right click on that exe and click on "End process tree".

Then you can go to Start-> Run-> type "luall" click ok

If you're using an old build

If you're using an old build (you only indicated 11.0), it's possible that you're experiencing an issue that has already been fixed.  Definitely would recommend migrating up.

It's possible too that when your computer broke down, your installation was damaged.  Try repairing the installation through Add or Remove Programs.  You may have to kill the luall.exe (or any other lu*.*) process that's running in order to get that working.

Managed or Unmanaged-?

How is that SEP client configured to receive its updates: from a SEPM (managed) or from the Internet LU servers? (unmanaged)  Or, possibly, from an internal LiveUpdate server-?

If the definitions are long out of date, it will need to download the entire new set (70+ MB) so that can definitely take a long time over a slow link.

Examining the log.liveupdate file, and LIveUpdate-related messages in teh Windwos Event logs, are a very good place to start looking for teh root cause.

Thanks and best regards,

Mick
