Hi guys,

Very new to Netbackup application 6.5.4 and have been doing some reading regarding the ports that I need opened on the firewall for master and media server communication accross a firewall. The media server is on behind the firewall.

So far I have pulled together these ports:

Master -- Media

TCP 13782 (bpcd) TCP 13782

TCP 13701 (vmd) TCP 13701

Media --Master

13721  (bpdbm) TCP 13721
13723  (bpjobd) TCP 13723
13701  (vmd)     TCP 13701
TCP 13724 (VNetD) TCP 13724

Also I believe I need to add the media server into the firewall host properties of the master server? Is this correct and am i missing any ports or configuration I need to know about? Thanks for your help. By the way both master and media servers are running windows 2003 X64 bit.

Paul.

PBX and vnetd only

In NBU 6.x you need port 1556 (PBX) for all media manager comms and port 13724 (vnetd) for ALL other NBU comms.
Both ports need to be bi-directional.

PBX port needs to be opned as well

PBX communicates on port 1556 - Traffic must be allows to initiate from both side of the firewall.

Assumption is the mother of all mess ups.

If this post solved you’re questions please send a gratitude by marking it as a solution.

Thanks for the info. Can I

Thanks for the info. Can I confirm that I need to add the media manger into the firewall host properties of the master or is implementing these ports on the firewall is enough for communication?

Thanks
Paul.

No need to add anything to

No need to add anything to host properties - those were the 'bad old days' before NBU 6.x.
vnetd and PBX in both directions is all you need.
I have posted a link to the NBU 6.x port usage doc earlier. Keep this doc handy as confirmation.
