Possible Brightmail IP block?

Created: 12 Jun 2009 • Updated: 21 May 2010 | 2 comments

Hi,

We have a client trying to send a couple of emails to an @optonline.net user. Emails would leave the network fine and we would not receive any bouncebacks.

The optonline.net user is able to send emails into our network but replying will result in the same thing...emails are not being received on the optonline.net end.

I've spoken with Optimum Online's rep and they told me to check a couple of Blackblists sites to make sure we're not on it.

The check came back negative from the suggested RBL sites.

They told me that they also have a BrightMail device as another anit-spam measure. I went to the IP removal site from Symantec to check out the ip in question which comes back as negative.

Is there anyway on Symantec's end to assist me with matter if there is an IP block somewhere on the BrightMail device? or if Symantec maintains a centralized list which it pushes out to the devices around the globe...can you guys check to see if our IP address is blocked?

IP address in question is 155.212.100.98

Below is a SMTPDIAG that I ran from our Exchange server:

Connecting to mx2.optonline.net [167.206.4.79] on port 25.
Received:
452 try later

Error: Expected "220". Server is not accepting connections.
Failed to submit mail to mx2.optonline.net.
Connecting to mx1.optonline.net [167.206.4.77] on port 25.
Received:
452 try later

Error: Expected "220". Server is not accepting connections.
Failed to submit mail to mx1.optonline.net.

Thanks,

-Will

Hi Williamc,

For tempory you can ask the recepient to add your IP address in their allowd list & at the same time check whether your IP address is listed in Symantec datsbase & send removal request.
http://ipremoval.sms.symantec.com/lookup/

It is better if you ask your ISP to whitelist the IP address because you cannot manually whitelist it from third party blacklist database.

Laeek

Hi Will,

The IP Removal page includes information on all Symantec Brightmail blacklists. As you saw, IP 155.212.100.98 is not blacklisted by Symantec Brightmail.

Amanda
