Possible to extract data from incomplete image

Forum Demi-Gods,

I ran a GHOST image using 11.5 on a failing drive.  This version does the image in one file rather than smaller blocks (kinda nice, I guess).  However, the drive actually crapped out about 3/4 of the way through the image.  For the life of me, can't get it to spin up one more time (the bain of the techy).  Is there any way to get the 42GB of GHOST image that I DO have to come up so I can extract at least a portion of whatever is there???

<I hope I can, I hope I can, I hope I can, I hope I can.>

Thanks,

Deis

Stick it in the freezer

Take the drive out, stick it in an antistatic bag and pop it in the fridge overnight or in the freezer for an hour or two.
Then try again, and if it spins up, focus on backing up data and not the operating system.
Sometimes taking the main PCB off the drive and reseating it can help too, or try swapping the main PCB from another identical drive if you have more inventory.
I don't think you can recover files from a partial ghost image, but maybe someone else knows different.
