So we recently purchased Endpoint 11.0 as well as a new server running windows server 2008. we were under the impression that they were compatible but after many problems, my server guy removed endpoint and said that there were "incompatibilities". Someone suggested that I needed MR2 at the least.  I was wondering if anyone could explain this to me. What is it, how much does it cost, and is it extensive to implement? We are just trying to figure out what is going wrong and the tech support people won't really talk to me without forking over my credit card numbers. we already spent enough for this product and so far it has been nothing but a hassle.

any info or knowledge would help. thank you in advance!

Whoever told you MR2 is a old news I will say you need atleast MR4MP2.which is nothing but the latest version of SEP 11.0 which is 11.0.4202.xx
Cost : you have already paid for it..So you just you need to  go to https://fileconnect.symantec.com
enter your serial number.Which you must have got when you bought/registered the product ( Serial number would be something like M123456789 )..then download the CD1 for MR4_MP2.
Install that everything will be fine.

If you have the licensed version of SEP then there is no need to spend more money on this.:)

You might have recived a certificate when you had purchased the Softwaree for the first time in that certificate there is a Serial number you will need this serial number.

Go to Https://fileconnect.symantec.com  & enter in your serial number it will be starting with letter "M" over there & you can download the latest version of MR4 MP2

    5) Installation of Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) on Windows Server 2008 fails with a prompt to install ASP.NET, CGI, and IIS 6.0 Management Compatibility for IIS 7.0.

Note: Management software does not include Symantec Endpoint Protection or any other client software that is managed.
Note: Internet Information Services (IIS) must be installed before installation of the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.

    Windows Server 2008 compatibility:
To install required components for a SEPM installation on Server 2008.
    1. Go to Administrative Tools > Server Manager > highlight Roles. NOTE: If you have not installed IIS, click Add Roles and install Web Server (IIS).
    2. Once IIS is installed, under Web Server (IIS), go down to Role Services and choose Add Role Services.
    3. Check ASP.NET, CGI, and IIS 6 Management Compatibility with all sub-categories.

BTW, SEP 11 MR5 is due out the first or second week of September. You might want to hold off upgrading if you can wait a couple weeks.
