Posts removal
Updated: 25 May 2010 | 14 comments
OK, I've just got a thread deleted and that's OK with me I unfderstand that (it was containing a link to Cleanwipe download).
But it was removed and no email or notification was sent about this.
In my opinion there should be something saying that it was removed because of some reason and maybe a notification to the poster (me in this case) about the fact that it was removed and why.
It's just a bit weird that something is being deleted just like that (even if it's justified).

I'm not sure who deleted it. But, I agree, there should be a reason given. I'm researching and will give you more information as I discover it. :)
Thanks!

I'm not in any way offended by removal (as I understand the reasons) and I guess that you (Symantec) will be probably interested who posted that tool in public.
It's just for the future it should be done in more "elegant" way in my opinion. Just something to consider when improving Connect.
PS. Post was named "CleanWipe available for public download" and it was posted today between 2-4 pm GMT.

The Admins/TA's should have the ability to enter a reason for post deletion/editing which gets sent as a PM to the author..
Would make things easier.
Will post this as a suggestion in a new thread.

I too would like to submit/see a reason for post/thread deletions. I deleted a duplicate post tonight after making sure is was 100 percent the same as the other duplicated post (I deleted the newreest one). As a prior moderator on several vBulletin forums, we never deleted posts or threads. We simply moved the thread so all moderators could see it and suggest/vote what to do and moved it back after it was cleaned. I would like to see this functionality here if possible.

The forum I put together and run has a hidden section only myself and the moderators can see. We have titled it "the post graveyard". If a member contests the removal, or other mods want an "opinion", it's moved there and can be reviewed if needed.
If after a couple weeks no one has complained or we have all agreed, it's deleted from that section.

Getting back to your original post, is Cleanwipe available to the public? I thought you could only get that from tech support. If it is available, by all means, post the link here for our reference. Oh yeah, I didn't delete your thread! :-)

Well, I think most of the time it's probably obvious why articles/posts are getting deleted.
However, I agree that the should be a notice.
I think they are working on a solution for this "problem".
